Cooking fires

Cooking fires can break out unexpectedly, especially if you are not attending your stovetops. Grease fires can spread quickly from stovetops and cause extensive damage to the kitchen area and other areas of the home if it is not put under control. While giving up cooking altogether may be a bit extreme, paying extra attention and never leaving the kitchen while preparing food is an easy way to reduce this risk.

Electrical fires

Electrical fires can occur at outlet locations around your house. Either inside the wall or outside the wall. Electrical fires can also occur at power bars that have too many electrical cords plugged in using too much power. Make sure you are using a power bar that has surge protection built in to prevent fires from breaking out. If you see an outlet that is sparking, has smoke coming from it or is burnt, cut off the power immediately and call an electrician.

Smoking and candles

House fires can break out from lit cigarettes that are left out or from candles that are left to burn close to flammable materials. These instances can easily be avoided with common sense, but there are large portions of house fires that are caused this way regardless.
